SUMMARY:One Aim Saturday Training Ride - Banff to Castle Junction and Back
DESCRIPTION:PARKING LOCATION \nDue to Fenland Rec Centre events\, Fenlands staff are asking cyclists NOT to park there. \nPlease use the free parking at the train station\, and park at the East End of the lot per the Google Map coordinates. If you copy and paste those coordinates into a browser\, you’ll see a red “Google pin” at the location we’re intending to assemble. \nWe’ll assemble near our parking spot and ride out at NINE THIRTY AM. \n***Important notes about this ride: \n1) The Bow Valley Parkway (Highway 1A) is partially closed to vehicle traffic on weekends May 1st until late June\, so cyclists\, other athletes\, and pedestrians have the 1A to themselves UP TO JOHNSTON Canyon. Vehicle traffic is allowed beyond Johnston. \n2) We have various ride distance options for this weekend\, and cyclists are welcome to go beyond those distances\, *knowing that they’re on their own.* \nBanff to Johnston Canyon and Back is 55k. \nBanff to Castle Junction and back is 65k (Parks Canada) \n3) Please RSVP via TeamSnap to let your One Aim volunteers know how many people to expect. \n4) ***In the event that weather or captain availability is an issue for the Banff ride\, the ride may be relocated to Springbank to Bragg Creek. \n———-\n———- \nTraining Ride Cancellations/Changes will be communicated via the One Aim Facebook Group and via TeamSnap and Strava Friday afternoon. \nWe know better by now than to let weather forecasts rule our decisions\, so unless you see a cancellation\, we plan to be there and welcome your company. \n———-\n———- \nNotes from your One Aim Cap’ns Steve and Colleen Murphy\, Dennis Wong\, Nolan Matthias\, and Paul Boucher: \n– Please ride in single file where warranted to share the road with other athletes or pedestrians hiking/walking along the 1A.\n– please give fellow humans a heads-up before passing – verbally (“passing on the left”\, or with a bell.\n– pls keep a safe distance from the bike in front\, and be very careful on drafting.\n– be mindful of any move that may affect the safety of others\n– Remember that you’re sharing the road with cars for the 6 or so km between Johnston Canyon and Castle Junction\, so ride single file on the narrow shoulder.\n– Rule #1 Safety first. \n– Rule #2 is don’t forget Rule #1. \n– Everyone is 100% responsible for their actions and safety. Ride leaders are volunteers who guide; they are not liable for your safety.\n– Lastly\, we cannot control how other people view or feel about cyclists\, but whenever we are riding\, we become the ambassador of the entire cycling community\, so pls keep that in mind\, be a good and courteous ambassador. \nLet’s Ride!

SUMMARY:One Aim Saturday Training Ride: Banff\, BVP to Johnston Canyon and Castle Junction & Back
DESCRIPTION:PARKING LOCATION \nDue to Fenland Rec Centre events\, Fenlands staff are asking cyclists NOT to park there. \nPlease use the free parking at the train station\, and park at the East End of the lot per the Google Maps coordinates in the link. \nMeet up is at 9:15. \nWe’ll assemble next to our parking location and ride out at NINE THIRTY AM. \n***Important notes about this ride: \n1) The Bow Valley Parkway (Highway 1A) is partially closed to vehicle traffic on weekends May 1st until June 25th\, so cyclists\, other athletes\, and pedestrians have the 1A to themselves UP TO JOHNSTON Canyon. Vehicle traffic is allowed beyond Johnston. \n2) We have various supported ride distance options\, and cyclists are welcome to go beyond those distances\, *knowing that they’re on their own.* \n**Supported Distances for the next couple of weeks: \nBanff to Johnston Canyon and Back is 55k. \nBanff to Castle Junction and back is 65k (Parks Canada) \n3) We will not have Colleen’s vehicle support on this ride\, so please make sure you’re self-sufficient (foot\, hydration\, spare tubes\, etc.). We will have 3 captains riding\, and Dennis\, Steve and Paul will be scattered in the group from front to back to make sure the ride is No Drop and riders feel supported. \n———- \nTraining Ride Cancellations (if necessary) will be communicated via the One Aim Facebook Group\, here on Strava\, and via TeamSnap by Friday afternoon. \nWe know better by now than to let weather forecasts rule our decisions\, so unless you see a cancellation\, we plan to be there and welcome your company. \n———- \nNotes from your One Aim Cap’ns Steve and Colleen Murphy\, Dennis Wong\, Nolan Matthias\, and Paul Boucher: \n– Please ride in single file where necessary to share the road with other athletes or pedestrians hiking/walking along the 1A.\n– please give fellow humans a heads-up before passing.\n– pls keep a safe distance from the bike in front\, and be very careful on drafting.\n– be mindful of any move that may affect the safety of others\n– Rule #1 Safety first. \nStrava: https://www.strava.com/clubs/4999/group_events/2036185
