SUMMARY:One Aim Saturday Ride - Banff\, Bow Valley Parkway\, Johnston Canyon and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:PARKING LOCATION \nDue to Fenland Rec Centre events (and the G7)\, Fenlands staff are asking cyclists NOT to park there. \nPlease use the free parking at the train station\, and park at the East End of the lot. \nWe’ll assemble near our parking spot and ride out at NINE THIRTY AM. \n**The Mountains can still be cool in the morning at this time of year. Please bring everything you think you’ll need (think of your mom telling you to LAYER UP!). It’s not uncommon to arrive in Banff to single-digit temperatures before it warms up. \n***Important notes about this ride: \n1) The Bow Valley Parkway (Highway 1A) is partially closed to vehicle traffic on weekends May 1st until late June\, so cyclists\, other athletes\, and pedestrians have the 1A to themselves UP TO JOHNSTON Canyon. Vehicle traffic is allowed beyond Johnston. \n2) We have various ride distance options for this weekend\, and cyclists are welcome to go beyond those distances\, *knowing that they’re on their own.* \nBanff to Johnston Canyon and Back is 55k. \nBanff to Castle Junction and back is 65k (Parks Canada) \n3) Please RSVP to let your One Aim volunteers know how many people to expect. \nTraining Ride Cancellations will be communicated on Friday afternoon. \nWe know better by now than to let weather forecasts rule our decisions\, so unless you see a cancellation\, we plan to be there and welcome your company. \nNotes from your One Aim Cap’ns Steve and Colleen Murphy\, Dennis Wong\, Nolan Matthias\, and Paul Boucher: \n– Helmets are mandatory.\n– Bear spray is optional\, but recommended.\n– Lights (particularly rear lights) are recommended.\n– Please ride single file where warranted to share the road with other athletes or pedestrians hiking/walking along the 1A.\n– To paraphrase veteran rider Lynn Fast: Communicate\, communicate\, communicate!\n– Give fellow humans a heads-up before passing – verbally or with a bell.\n– Pls keep a safe distance from the bike in front\, and be very careful on drafting\, downhill\, or uphill.\n– Be mindful of any move that may affect the safety of others. If in doubt\, just don’t. \n– Rule #1 Safety first. \n– Rule #2 is don’t forget Rule #1. \n– Everyone is 100% responsible for their actions and safety. Ride leaders are volunteers who guide; they are not liable for your safety.\n– Lastly\, we cannot control how other people view or feel about cyclists\, but whenever we are riding\, we become the ambassadors of the entire cycling community\, so pls keep that in mind\, be a good and courteous ambassador. The bears thank you. \nLet’s Ride! \nStrava Link Here!

SUMMARY:One Aim BRAGG CREEK Saturday Ride\, Saturday June 6th
DESCRIPTION:***Important notes about Saturday Training rides: \nWe’re continuing to roughly alternate our Saturday rides between the Bragg Creek Training Ride and riding along the Bow Valley Parkway. Saturday\, June 6th\, it will be Bragg Creek. \n1) The ride proceeds along Springbank Road to Highway 22. \nNote that the shoulder on Springbank Road varies from nearly non-existent to sufficient. So until we reach Highway 22\, it’s single-file riding. \n2) There are various distance options. There may not be enough One Aim captains or volunteers on any given Saturday to support the longer distances. However\, the distance options are: \n– 50K to the Cinnamon Spoon café in Bragg Creek (espresso and pastry stop!)\n– 60-ish km to a neighbourhood turnaround west of Bragg Creek.\n– 72-ish km at another neighbourhood turnaround closer to West Bragg.\n– You can also choose to double up on the loops to push your distance close to 100 km. \n3) Please RSVP to let us know how many people to expect. \nTraining Ride Cancellations will be communicated in as timely a fashion as possible. \nWe know better by now than to let weather forecasts rule our decisions\, so unless you see a cancellation\, we plan to be there and welcome your company. \nNotes from your One Aim Cap’ns Steve and Colleen Murphy\, Dennis Wong\, Nolan Matthias\, and Paul Boucher: \n– Helmets are mandatory.\n– Lights (particularly rear lights) are recommended.\n– Ride single file\, especially along Springbank Road.\n– Please give fellow humans a heads-up before passing.\n– Please maintain a safe distance from the bike in front and be very careful when drafting.\n– Be mindful of any move that may affect the safety of others. It will be a roughly 35 km ride with 420 m of ascents. \nTraining Ride Cancellations will be communicated via 60 – 90 minutes before the ride. \nWe know better by now than to let weather forecasts rule our decisions in Calgary\, so unless you see a cancellation\, we plan to be there and welcome your company. \nNotes from ride leaders. \nYou’re all welcome to join \n– Helmets are mandatory \n– Lights (particularly rear lights) are recommended. \n– Be mindful of gravel\, especially at turns. \n– Please ride in single file on busy roads. \n– Please check for oncoming traffic and give fellow riders a heads-up before passing. \n– Pls be mindful of pulling out into traffic to pass\, especially going uphill \n– Pls keep a safe distance from the bike in front\, and be very careful on drafting \n– Pls follow all traffic signs and signals\, for example\, stop at STOP signs unless a ride leader is waving you through \n– pls do not simply follow other riders when crossing traffic. It may be safe for them to cross but not for you; always use your own judgment based on your own ability. \n– also be mindful of any move that may affect the safety of others \n– Rule #1 Safety first \n– Rule #2 is don’t forget Rule #1 \n– Everyone is 100% responsible for their own actions and safety. Ride leaders are volunteers who are just guiding the route; they are not liable for your safety. \n– Lastly\, we cannot control how drivers and other people view or feel about cyclists on the road\, but whenever we are riding\, we become the ambassadors of the entire cycling community\, so pls keep that in mind\, be a good and courteous ambassador \nLet’s Ride! \nStrava

SUMMARY:Highwood Pass - 2026
DESCRIPTION:MEETUP SPOT: Highwood Pass Winter Gate – Intersection of Highway 40/Kananaskis Lakes Trail-Smith-Dorrien Trail Intersection \nThe pass is closed to vehicle traffic until June 20th this year. \nThis Saturday\, June 13th\, ride REPLACES the ride in Bragg Creek or Banff. \nJoin us and ride to the top of the HIGHEST PAVED PASS IN CANADA! \n***Please note that a Kananaskis Park Pass will be required to park at the gate. \nThe weather in Kananaskis can be\, um\, variable. Everything from perfect Alberta blue sky to horizontal sleet\, snow\, or rain is possible. Please check the weather forecast. \nBy that\, we mean BE PREPARED! \nWe’ve had hypothermic riders\, overheated\, dehydrated riders\, and everything in between. \nClothing: Always have a hat\, gloves and wind/waterproof layer you can put on. Shoe covers are a great idea but alternatively\, put a couple of supermarket plastic bags in your saddle bag so they can be used to keep your feet dry in an emergency. \nPlease note\, these rides are OPEN and FREE to EVERYONE and observe a strict “no-drop” policy (i.e.\, no one will be left on their own!). The first half of the ride is essentially an 18 km climb to the top of the Highwood Pass. The hills are gentle at first\, with the last few kms at about a 7% grade. It’s challenging\, but the feeling you get making it to the top – and then of course\, the return DOWNhill are awesome. \nAll riders participate at their own risk. \nStrava Link Here!
