On the Run for Hope: Parkland’s Ride for a Cancer-Free Future

From twelve riders to a growing team, from fundraising milestones to M&M Food Market treats that lift spirits and ease costs, Parkland has become an essential partner in the goal of a cancer-free future. Their generosity, leadership, and heart have fueled progress — but their work isn’t finished.

When Parkland first joined the Enbridge Tour Alberta for Cancer three years ago, they showed up as a small cycling team of 12 riders, eager to make a difference. Matching jerseys gave them a sense of belonging, but it was the stories they heard that first weekend — from speakers, from patients, from fellow riders — that left a lasting impression.

For Monica Mochoruk, Vice President, Global P&C Business Partnership at Parkland Corporation, that moment sparked a deeper commitment.

“I’m so pleased that this has become a partnership. We started as participants, and in the last two years, become partners with the event and couldn’t be prouder. It’s super important.”

Since that first ride, Parkland ON the RUN Cycling Team has raised over $220,000 for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. What began with a dozen cyclists has grown within the company, with riders not only from Calgary but also from Parkland’s offices as far away as the Caribbean.

“We know that cancer touches everyone, no matter where you live and where you are. We’re a Calgary head-quartered organization and this event is absolutely a Parkland Calgary office event, but we know it’s in service of all our Parklanders, no matter where they live.”

For Monica, the cause is deeply personal.

“I know for me personally, I have two of my girlfriends fighting cancer right now in treatment, so I was riding for them today.”

Those personal connections are what drive Parkland to show up stronger every year, pushing through long distances and fundraising milestones because they know the impact their efforts can have.

Elevating the Rider Experience

But Parkland’s contribution to the Tour doesn’t stop at fundraising. Their partnership also helps create an unforgettable experience for thousands of riders.

Through their M&M Food Market and ON the RUN brands, Parkland provides snacks at pit stops and welcomes riders at the finish line with treats like cookies, cheesecake, and ice cream. These small but meaningful touches not only offset event costs, but also add an elevated experience for cyclists and their families celebrating their accomplishment after hours on the road.

“One of our values is actually community. It’s the reason I joined Parkland. And we can’t show it any better than being here today,” said Monica.

Every rider and volunteer representing Parkland and their group of companies reflects that value — a reminder that community is built not just through fundraising totals, but through the moments that connect us.

Monica has seen firsthand the difference Albertans make when they rally together.

“We have this incredible cancer centre. The commitment we’ve made as a province, and all of these corporations that are here today in service – there’s a real difference in how Alberta comes out for their community,” she shared.

It’s that difference that makes the Enbridge Tour Alberta for Cancer more than a cycling event. It’s a movement of individuals, teams, and partners — like Parkland — who believe in coming together to make life better for those facing cancer.

From twelve riders to a growing team, from fundraising milestones to M&M Food Market treats that lift spirits and ease costs, Parkland has become an essential partner in the goal of a cancer-free future. Their generosity, leadership, and heart have fueled progress — but their work isn’t finished.

As Monica puts it:

“I’m so very glad to be a part of the solution. We don’t need any families to suffer the downsides of cancer when we’ve got the opportunity to raise money.”
