PARKING LOCATION
Due to Fenland Rec Centre events (and the G7), Fenlands staff are asking cyclists NOT to park there.
Please use the free parking at the train station, and park at the East End of the lot.
We’ll assemble near our parking spot and ride out at NINE THIRTY AM.
***Important notes about this ride:
1) First and foremost – for many, this will be their first 100km ride. (Technically 107 km). The full distance is NOT mandatory, but know that if you turn back early, you will be riding to Banff unsupported since the captains and team will be enjoying a mid-ride barbecue/lunch.
2) The Bow Valley Parkway (Highway 1A) will have fully reopened to vehicle traffic.
3) We have various ride distance options for this weekend, and cyclists are welcome to go beyond those distances, *knowing that they’re on their own.*
HIGHLIGHTS: Castle Mountain, Morant’s Curve where many famous CPR Railway photos have been shot. Every mountain. The company. 🙂
Distances:
Banff to Johnston Canyon and Back is 55k.
Banff to Castle Junction and back is 65k (Parks Canada)
Banff to Corral Creek and back is 107 km
3) Please RSVP to let your One Aim volunteers know how many people to expect.
Training Ride Cancellations will be communicated on Friday afternoon.
We know better by now than to let weather forecasts rule our decisions, so unless you see a cancellation, we plan to be there and welcome your company.
Notes from your One Aim Cap’ns Steve and Colleen Murphy, Dennis Wong, Nolan Matthias, and Paul Boucher:
– Helmets are mandatory.
– Bear spray is optional, but recommended.
– Lights (particularly rear lights) are recommended.
– Please ride single file where warranted to share the road with other athletes or pedestrians hiking/walking along the 1A.
– To paraphrase veteran rider Lynn Fast: Communicate, communicate, communicate!
– Give fellow humans a heads-up before passing – verbally or with a bell.
– Pls keep a safe distance from the bike in front, and be very careful on drafting, downhill, or uphill.
– Be mindful of any move that may affect the safety of others. If in doubt, just don’t.
– Rule #1 Safety first.
– Rule #2 is don’t forget Rule #1.
– Everyone is 100% responsible for their actions and safety. Ride leaders are volunteers who guide; they are not liable for your safety.
– Lastly, we cannot control how other people view or feel about cyclists, but whenever we are riding, we become the ambassadors of the entire cycling community, so pls keep that in mind, be a good and courteous ambassador. The bears thank you.
Let’s Ride!
